Sunoil has successfully supplied certified B100 biodiesel for Verde Marine Energy’s first physical bunkering of B100 Advanced FAME in the Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Antwerp (ARA) region, marking another important step in the adoption of renewable marine fuels.
The certified B100 was loaded via the Standic terminal in Dordrecht, with Sunoil providing the renewable fuel and supporting storage infrastructure. Verde Marine Energy carried out the physical bunkering of the Beautriton, a vessel within the Vertom Group, demonstrating how collaboration across the renewable fuel value chain can deliver practical and scalable decarbonisation solutions for the maritime sector.
Produced from sustainable feedstocks, Sunoil’s B100 delivers up to 90% greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction compared to conventional fossil diesel while meeting the high quality standards required for demanding marine applications. As regulatory frameworks such as FuelEU Maritime, EU ETS and RED III continue to drive demand for lower-carbon fuels, reliable supply, operational readiness and trusted partnerships are becoming increasingly important.
Stephan van Wensen, Business Development Manager at Sunoil, said: “Supporting initiatives like this reflects Sunoil’s commitment to making renewable fuels more accessible to the maritime sector. This collaboration is another example of how strategic partnerships can accelerate the adoption of renewable marine fuels.”
Sunoil’s established production, storage and logistics network enables the company to support shipowners, bunker suppliers and fuel distributors with certified B100 for both sea-going vessels and inland barges.
“The maritime sector is increasingly looking for partners that combine high quality renewable fuels with dependable supply and operational expertise,” said Johanna Burholt, Business Development at Sunoil. “By combining Sunoil’s expertise in certified biofuels with Verde Marine Energy’s bunkering capabilities, we can help make renewable marine fuels more accessible to shipowners across the ARA region.”
Joe Tierney, Director and Head of Trading at Verde Marine Energy, also commented on the collaboration: “This first B100 Advanced FAME bunkering is an important milestone for Verde Marine Energy. We would like to thank Sunoil for supplying the product and supporting this first physical biofuel delivery. With their support, we were able to move from preparation into physical supply and take a practical step in making sustainable marine fuels more accessible to shipowners.”
Whether supplying sea-going vessels, inland barges or blending operations, Sunoil remains committed to supporting customers and partners with renewable fuel solutions that combine quality, sustainability and supply security.
A special thank you to Christian Sterken at Verde Marine Energy for the excellent collaboration throughout this milestone, and to the team at Standic for their support during the successful loading in Dordrecht. We appreciate the trust placed in Sunoil and look forward to many more successful collaborations in advancing renewable marine fuels.
